Thor Scale Armor. Platinum silicone sleeves.
One night at 2 am I had one of the best ideas I have ever had. For 10 years I had been trying to figure out a way to make the scale sleeves Thor wears in the MCU movies. But I am not a big company like Legacy Effects, so I had to come up with a new way that only required my 3D modeling skills, my wits and two hands.
So I have made both the Dark World / Age of Ultron and the Infinity War / Endgame sleeves.
Starting with a 3D printable mold, a positive arm with inverted scales. Brushing on layers of platinum silicone and following platinum silicone painting techniques I learned watching Stan Winston School courses.
I am very proud of these.
The 3D printed molds also serve as perfect mannequins.
This was the first successful test. I painted the Dark World sleeves using encapsulated Pearl Ex pigments in between layers of silicone and naptha.
The Infinity War version turend out cleaner, since I had already practiced with the Dark World version twice.
The Infinity War version is bulkier, the pattern and the surface/finish are different
"My heart on your sleeve" is the motiv running on the Dark World version.
"Realise your power" is the motto on the Infinity War sleeves.
Each sleeves follow the same grid pattern as the movie versions.
The scales on the Dark World version are flatter and have a metallic sheen.
The scales of the Infinity War sleeves have leather texture. It took a few tests to figure it out.
