This is my final version of the 3D Printable Stormbreaker, Thor's mighty axe weapon. It's a two year Project that involves everything I know, from engineering to 3D art to even magic. This represents so much more than just an axe. I tried to convey everything it means on my Dissertation.
It's designed in multiple pieces that are easy to assemble and disassemble, using screws and some magnets. The prop is completely secured and safe, and there are no magnets or screws visible. It has an Arduino powered LED circuit, with a potentiometer that allows me to change between animations, lightning and the smoldering ones. The lightning represents the art side of me, and the smoldering represents the engineer.
Besides the LEDs, there is a smoke machine that makes smoke come out from certain parts of the axe head, making for an even better effect. The design lives through the analogy of the human body. It has skin (outer shells and parts) and a skeleton (inner part where you lay down the LEDs) and three organs: brain, lungs and heart.
Some of these images are pages of my dissertation. It is such a personal project, that I felt it was necessary to document the process.

Here you have the painting tutorial of the head :) I came up with my own techniques based on the ones I already knew, and a complete new one!
Here is the tutorial for the electronics inside the head.
