Stormbreaker. LED · SMOKE. A fan project by @henrycreations

This is my final version of the 3D Printable Stormbreaker, Thor's mighty axe weapon. It's a two year Project that involves everything I know, from engineering to 3D art to even magic. This represents so much more than just an axe. I tried to convey everything it means on my Dissertation.
It's designed in multiple pieces that are easy to assemble and disassemble, using screws and some magnets. The prop is completely secured and safe, and there are no magnets or screws visible. It has an Arduino powered LED circuit, with a potentiometer that allows me to change between animations, lightning and the smoldering ones. The lightning represents the art side of me, and the smoldering represents the engineer.

Besides the LEDs, there is a smoke machine that makes smoke come out from certain parts of the axe head, making for an even better effect. The design lives through the analogy of the human body. It has skin (outer shells and parts) and a skeleton (inner part where you lay down the LEDs) and three organs: brain, lungs and heart.

Some of these images are pages of my dissertation. It is such a personal project, that I felt it was necessary to document the process.

Here you have the painting tutorial of the head :) I came up with my own techniques based on the ones I already knew, and a complete new one!

Here is the tutorial for the electronics inside the head.

Here is the cover of my Dissertation. It is a 3D render of what I would like to make in the future, holding the axe in place. Followed by this image are a few pages of the book.

Here is a render of the pieces of the head of the Stormbreaker. Having crazy ideas in the beginning allowed me to explore possibilities, and following my working philosophy has led to non-destructive work like this one. Everything can be disassembled.

But I also like to start from the ground up. So, which Stormbreaker is the resin cast?

I love seeing what I kept and what I discarded. So many ideas and so different.

Everytime I unlock and extract the heart, I am reminded that every second I spend following my path is a good way of using my time :)

By far one of the coolest moments of the build!

I was in complete awe, seeing all the pieces come together after being painted. Super proud of that paintjob and all those microsurface imperfections. Have you seen the tutorial on my YouTube Channel?

The light from the LEDs is diffused correctly over the entire surface. This project has taught me so much about myself, about my ambitions and driven mindset. When I have a vision I want to make true, I feel truly unstoppable.

I painted it with metalic Alcad II lacquers. I had to come up with a new painting technique to achieve that translucency
